The Pandemic "Fast-Track"
Matt and Sophie met when the world was closed, masks were the ultimate fashion statement, and "grabbing a drink" meant sitting six feet apart in a park. While most people were just trying to find toilet paper, we were busy logging serious miles on I-95 and I-80. Between Virginia, Illinois and North Carolina, we spent a year perfecting the art of the long-distance weekend, surviving 4-hour playlists, and realizing that if we could enjoy each other’s company when the world was literally shut down, we might actually be onto something.
The Ultimate Stress Test: 365 Days of Travel
Apparently, surviving a global pandemic together wasn’t enough of a challenge. To really test the relationship, we decided to spend a full year living out of suitcases and traveling the world. The journey included Bali, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, South Korea, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany, Greece, Mexico, and road tripping the USA. Went to Michigan’s upper peninsula to visit family, hiked around Arches, Zion, Kolob, Olympic, and Glacier National Parks then we capped it all off with New Years in Belize. During that adventure we navigated 24-hour travel days, argued over Google Maps in languages we don't speak, and discovered that Sophie is a professional at finding the best street food while Matt is a professional at eating it. After a year of being each other’s only constant—and surprisingly not leaving anyone at a remote train station—we decided we were ready for a permanent partnership.
The Main Event
We’ve officially traded our backpacks for home ownership, a ding ding puppy dog, and wedding gear. We figured if we can survive a year of international airport security and 24/7 together-time, a marriage should be a walk in the park. We can’t wait to celebrate our biggest "trip" yet with all of you, the family and friends that make life so wonderful!
